Now the 250 MB version of the classic 100 MB blue Zip drive is available, extending the Zip product family and the technology that's meeting the needs of the digital age. And the amount of digital information is skyrocketing. Consider the size of even basic office application files, presentations, digital music, scanned family photos, digital video, tax files, financial records, not to mention the millions upon millions of Web pages packed with information. It can be overwhelming. From all these choices you'll pick what's valuable to you. You'll create and save. You'll download and piece together a growing collection of content that's important to you. Your Parallel Port Zip 250 drive should serve as the safe deposit box for your library of PC files. Easy to duplicate and back up, rugged, reliable Zip disks can protect your data from hard drive crashes and even physical computer theft. And how about flexibility? The Parallel Port Zip drive detaches easily and goes where you go. Light and compact, the 250 MB Parallel Port Zip drive can be the traveling person's complete solution, attachable to virtually any PC in the world

Iomega 10919 Zip 100 Drive (Parallel Port) $99.99 Is your hard disk running out of room? Do you need to protect your valuable data? Consider Iomega's Parallel Port Zip 100 drive, an inexpensive and portable external disk drive. Iomega says it has sold over 100 million of its 100 MB Zip disks, the floppy companions to the Zip 100 drive, and we believe them based on how easy it was for us to set up and use the Zip 100. We just plugged it in, connected a cable to our PC's parallel port, dropped in the CD-ROM, and followed the setup wizard. The CD-ROM comes with the necessary software to make the Zip 100 act like any other drive on your PC--except the Zip 100 has a 100-MB storage capacity. We set the drive up on our test machine and copying files to and from drive F was just as easy as it was on drive A or C. You can still use your printer with the Zip 100, as the external drive includes its own parallel port. Iomega recommends that you connect no more than one additional device to the Zip 100, but in our test, we "daisy chained" three peripherals--a printer connected to a scanner connected to the Zip 100 connected to our PC--without encountering any device conflicts. We used the included 1-Step Backup and 1-Step Restore utilities to back up and restore several hundred megabytes of an old Pentium's hard disk. The process was entirely intuitive and flawless but slow. We did not even approach the claimed 25-MB-per-minute performance, but that's just the way peripheral life is when you're using a parallel port. The Zip 100 is self-contained, and if you take along the parallel cable and AC power supply, it becomes portable. However, the real convenience comes from the Zip disks themselves. The disks have a tough plastic shell and come in a CD-type jewel box, so little protective precautions are required as you exchange data with Zip-owning friends

Iomega Zip 100 Portable USB Drive $129.99 A classic just got better. Iomega's timeless Zip drive now comes with a USB (universal serial bus) interface and a snazzy translucent blue encasement, making it a great companion to any flavor iMac or G3 tower, and a step in the right direction for beige PC users. USB is the interface shipping with all new Macintosh systems and most PCs made after 1997. (However, to use the Zip 100 USB drive with a PC, you must be running Windows 98). USB offers faster data-transfer rates than a parallel port and is completely hot swappable. You can simply unplug the drive while your computer is running and attach any other USB peripheral that you need. With USB, you can also daisy-chain up to 128 devices, although you can expect some serious performance bottlenecks with that many peripherals. We set up and installed the Zip 100 drive in less than five minutes. The manual and quick-install guide were easy to follow with step-by-step instructions and troubleshooting tips. Backing up a hard drive was painless with Iomega's 1-Step Backup and 1-Step Restore features. We tested the drive's transfer rate by attempting to back up our 970 MB hard drive. (Don't expect to fit a drive that massive on one Zip disk.) We backed up 100 MB in a little under five minutes, putting the transfer rates close to Iomega's claims of 25 MB per minute. Although USB is slower than SCSI, it far surpasses speeds offered by traditional parallel-port devices. If you're willing to sacrifice the fastest transfer rates for ease of use, portability, hot swappability, and style, then the Iomega Zip 100 USB drive is a good choice
