Ma insomma quando torna Gnomiz dal Tirolo? Il Papa chiede perdono per le marachelle della chiesa del passato e intanto quelli di Comunione e Liberazione continuano a fare i furbetti nel nome di Cristo, il colto Cacciari e il finto paesano Di Pietro ci vorrebbero convincere che non esiste più la destra e la sinistra che è come dare del cretino a chi pensa a una società diversa da quella che per combattere le idee liberali e socialiste dei nostri nonni ha avuto bisogno di due guerre mondiali, il poeta Raboni vorrebbe salvare la cultura italiana mungendo soldi ai contribuenti per varare l'ennesima collana dei classici che nessuno mai leggerà, Indro Montanelli si infervora per due suoi giovanissimi amici in tomba: Gentile e Cardarelli...e noi poveri internettisti in attesa che Gnomiz ritorni dal Tirolo, cerchiamo impotenti nel web quello che non riusciamo a trovare nei cortiletti della sempre più depressa carta stampata. Gentile Granetto se proprio dobbiamo rinunciare anche alla speranza, abbia la compiacenza di consigliarci la morte migliore.

Caro Villoni, quanta impazienza, se noi ci siamo presi quindici giorni di vacanza Lei per riscriverci ha dovuto pensare per quasi due anni (il precedente intervento del Dott. Benedetto Villoni si può leggere a Pagina 68 di questo Forum). Per quanto riguarda il mea culpa collettivo proposto dal Papa, mi sembra una buona idea per ravvivare il dialogo fra credenti e non credenti.Questa proposta suggerisce una attualizzazione delle idee di Provvidenza e di Grazia, offrendo ai non credenti l'opportunità di confrontarsi con i limiti, etici e di valore, che una mentalità esageratamente positivista non è riuscita a valicare. Solo quando ci si è stancati di avere "ragione", solo quando le interpretazioni storiche ci sembrano convincenti, siamo pronti a intraprendere le strade del dubbio, o del timor di Dio, senza sentirci sconfitti. L'iniziativa del Papa, se avrà successo, dovrebbe riuscire a creare un clima nel quale le certezze nichiliste di Cacciari e la caparbietà empirica di Di Pietro potrebbero essere messe in dubbio da chi ipotizza una civiltà diversa da quelle che finora abbiamo conosciute. In questa prospettiva anche la proposta di Raboni sarebbe obbligata a confrontarsi con gli effetti che i cambiamenti di civiltà hanno sempre creato: abbandono delle linee di continuità della storia più vicina a favore di una rilettura innovativa della storia più arcaica. Attendendo pazientemente che questo salto di civiltà ci travolga, cerchiamo di essere più generosi con le esigenze commerciali della nostra informazione, sul web come nella carta stampata. Se improvvisamente giornali come il Corriere della Sera o La Repubblica rinunciassero a fornire informazioni rassicuranti e scontate perderebbero gran parte del loro pubblico senza avere nessuna certezza di acquisirne uno nuovo. Per rispondere infine alla provocazione con la quale chiude la Sua lettera penso che "la morte migliore" sia quella di avere "la speranza" di riuscire a viverla in ogni attimo della nostra vita: accorgendocene. Fra le molte deficienze create dal pensiero positivista, la rimozione della morte appare fra le più sconsiderate, non solo, come è ovvio, per la qualità dei nostri prodotti artistici e culturali, ma soprattutto per la qualità della nostra vita. "Il miglior tempo della nostra vita" che "lentamente ci dice addio" evocato dall'amico di Montanelli, Vincenzo Cardarelli, può ancora aiutare gli uomini a condividere almeno una certezza.

Riceviamo e inoltriamo responsabilmente il seguente documento (a noi inviato da amici Americani) che denuncia le usurpanti e umilianti atrocita' in cui il 'Taliban Power since 1966' costringe cosi' drammaticamente e incivilmente subenti - le Donne Afgane.Percio' pregando singoli Cittadini, Associazioni e Redazioni di Riviste e Giornali - di ognuno fare la propria parte per avversare questa ignominiosa realta'. Magari anche solo facendo circolare la sottoscrizione di solidarieta' promossa nel Documento.Ma possibilmente facendone un caso di alta responsabilita' Giornalistica (anche su Internet) nel rendere noto e sensibilizzare la piu' vasta Opinione Pubblica (Wide World) della necessita' di intensificare segnali di indignazione e deploro Morale e Civile, finche' promuovere severi interventi di Governo e Governi, prima che anche in Afganistan succeda come in Yugoslavia.S'intende che non si tratta di portare in accusa sani costumi e Sacre Leggi Coraniche dell'Islam, che non contemplano la schiavizzazione della Donna. For a good cause... The government of Afghanistan is waging a war upon women. Since the Taliban took power in 1996, women have had to wear burqua and have been beaten and stoned in public for not having the proper attire, even if this means simply not having the mesh covering in front of their eyes. One woman was beaten to DEATH by an angry mob of fundamentalists for accidentally exposing her arm while she was driving. Another was stoned to death for trying to leave the country with a man that was not a relative. Women are not allowed to work or even go out in public without a male relative; professional women such as professors, translators, doctors, lawyers, artists and writers have been forced from their jobs and stuffed into their homes, so that depression is becoming so widespread that it has reached emergency levels. There no way in such an extreme Islamic society to know the suicide rate with certainty, but relief workers are estimating that the suicide rate among women, who cannot find proper medication and treatment for severe depression and would rather take their lives than live in such conditions, has increased significantly. Homes where a woman is present must have their windows painted so that she can never be seen by outsiders. They must wear silent shoes so that they are never heard.Women live in fear of their lives for the slightest misbehaviour. Because they cannot work, those without male relatives or husbands are either starving to death or begging on the street, even if they hold Ph.D's. There are almost no medical facilities available for women, and relief workers, in protest, have mostly left the country, taking medicine and psychologists and other things necessary to treat the sky-rocketing level of depression among women. At one of the rare hospitals for women, a reporter found still, nearly lifeless bodies lying motionless on top of beds, wrapped in their burqua, unwilling to speak, eat, or do anything, but slowly wasting away. Others have gone mad and were seen crouched in corners, perpetually rocking or crying, most of them in fear. One doctor is considering, when what little medication that is left finally runs out, leaving these women in front of the president's residence as a form of peaceful protest. It is at the point where the term 'human rights violations' has become an understatement.Husbands have the power of life and death over their women relatives, especially their wives, but an angry mob has just as much right to stone or beat a woman, often to death, for exposing an inch of flesh or offending them in the slightest way. Women enjoyed relative freedom, to work, dress generally as they wanted, and drive and appear in public alone until only 1996. The rapidity of this transition is the main reason for the depression and suicide; women who were once educators or doctors or simply used to basic human freedoms are now severely restricted and treated as sub-human in the name of right-wing fundamentalist Islam. It is not their tradition or 'culture', but is alien to them, and it is extreme even for those cultures where fundamentalism is the rule. Everyone has a right to a tolerable human existence, even if they are women in a Muslim country. If we can threaten military force in Kosovo in the name of human rights for the sake of ethnic Albanians, citizens of the world can certainly express peaceful outrage at the oppression, murder and injustice committed against women by the Taliban.STATEMENT: In signing this, we agree that the current treatment of women in Afghanistan is completely UNACCEPTABLE and deserves support and action by the United Nations and that the current situation overseaswill not be tolerated Women's Rights is not a small issue anywhere and it is UNACCEPTABLE for women in 1999 to be treated as sub-human and so much as property.Equality and human decency is a RIGHT not a freedom, whether one lives in Afghanistan or elsewhere.
