Nata il 30 marzo 1979 a New York ma cresciuta a Dallas, dove si trasferì con i genitori all'età di 4 anni, Norah Jones cominciò subito a cantare nei cori della chiesa ed all'età di sei anni cominciò a prendere lezioni di piano. Nel 1994 entrò nella Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, importante scuola musicale di Dallas (dalla quale è uscito anche il trombettista Roy Hargrove) e nel 1996 e 1997 vinse l'importante Down Beat Student Music Awards come Best Jazz Vocalist...continua in .ciaojazz.
